Autistic Spectrum Disorders
There are a wide variety of autistic behaviors and each person may have some behaviors and not others. Often these behaviors are eliminated and reduced. There are several assessment tools available and diagnosis is often made by your doctor or a psychologist.
Autism
Autistic children often display behaviors such as self-stimulation (ex. flapping the hands, spinning around), running or jumping almost constantly, aggression, withdrawn from social relationships and activities. People often say they seem to be in their own world. Many times the speech is delayed and takes extra efforts from others to help them learn to say words or speak.
Developmental Disabilities
Self Injury- This behavior may result in severe injury if left untreated. The person may hit his head against a wall, against a table or use his own fist or hand to hit himself. In addition there are other types of self-injury including biting themselves, scratching themselves and a wide variety of other ways of hurting themselves.

Aggressive Behaviors
Aggression may include aggression against property, aggression against people or even aggression against themselves. The aggression may be accompanied with screaming and crying. This behavior can be treated, reduced and many times eliminated completely.
Daily Living Skills Training-This includes skills such as chores in the home. For example, emptying the dishwasher, wiping the table, laundry skills, taking the trash, moping, sweeping or making the childs bed.
Communication- This skill is very important since expressing oneself is the way we are able to attain things that we want. When someone becomes frustrated and cannot communicate then inappropriate behavior may begin. We might begin with teaching words, then phrases and the full sentences or conversations.
